叶企孙先生现在被越来越多的人所知道,他是九三学社前辈王淦昌、赵九章、陈芳允、葛庭燧等著名科学家的恩师。他对中国科学事业做出了重要贡献,但也历经坎坷。叶企孙最后的遭遇,是历史、社会、文化等各种因素综合作用的结果,是文化大革命的恶果。我们必须谨记,在中华民族走向现代化的未来征途上,再也不能让我们的杰出科学家受如此委屈和磨难,再也不能让文化大革命的悲剧重演。叶企孙先生的侄子叶铭汉院士最近说了一句话:要反思历史,接受教训。诚如斯言。历史不仅仅是实际发生的事,而且还是人们对这些事件的思考,以及对这些思考的思考。人类历史不断进行自我反思,正是通过反思,历史才是理性的,才能不断探求更为合理的行进方向。历史本身没有反思力,是赋予了理性思维能力的人在思考着。这种反省精神,永远推动着人们超越自我,超越人类社会自身,愈来愈走向更高文明。反思“文革”的教训,使年轻人了解“十年动乱”及其对我们民族科学文化的危害,对于曾经经历了那些年风云变幻的一代人来说,这是历史庄重交给我们的责任。我们没有权利回避这个责任,每一个具有历史责任感,对生活采取严肃态度,崇尚“爱国、进步、科学、民主”的人,都不能回避这个责任。 Mr. Ye, who is now known to more and more people, is a teacher of well-known scientists such as Wang Ganchang, Zhao Jiuzhang, Chen Fangyun and Ge Tingsui, predecessors of the Jiusan Society.
