婴儿期是宝宝生长发育最快速的一个时期,自5~6个月起,婴儿配方奶及母乳,已经无法完全提供宝宝正常发育所需的营养与热量,因此,需要添加副食来补充蛋白质、铁质及维生素。此外,利用副食的喂食方式,可训练宝宝吞咽及咀嚼食物的能力,让婴儿逐渐适应各种食物,为断奶做好准备。由于谷类是所有固体食物中最容易消化的,且最不易引起过敏反应,因此米粉及麦粉通常最早被用来作为婴儿的辅食。但是麦粉中含有麸质蛋白,对部分宝宝来说可能就是一种过敏源,因此妈妈可以先选择成分较麦粉单纯的米粉作为宝宝的第一种辅食,同时观察宝宝的适应状况,例如:是否会呕吐、腹泻、出疹、皮肤潮红等,若是适应力佳,约食用1个月后,即可逐渐换成麦粉或是综合谷类,因其所含的蛋白质及维生素 B 群会高于米粉。
