The transition from traditional to modern in British and American novels, the change in theme orientation of the novel, the narrative structure, the means of narration and the whole narrative mode of language can be innovated. Henry James, an outstanding writer who spanned two centuries and two Anglo-American English countries, accomplished the above-mentioned aesthetic transition with both long-term exploration and extensive experiments in both theory and practice.
