雕塑家和画家都必须处理视觉印象和动觉观念之间存在的关系。画家在平面上给出三维形体的视觉印象,而雕塑家则为了提供一个平面视觉印象去塑造某种三维的实物。1——阿道夫·希尔德布兰德在现成品或者装置艺术登上艺术史舞台之前,造型艺术的形式问题大多聚焦在二维的绘画和三维的雕塑之上,在这二者之间以浮雕为过渡,平面与立体的关系,错觉与真实的差异,视觉和触觉的感知为两种艺术形式划分了界限。对于这两种艺术创作手法,西方文化对它们表现真实的能力都给予了肯定。
