I. INTRODUCTION The usual criticism of the external motivation hand is that the user loses (limited) feedback that may be provided by the motive prosthetic harness. This criticism is well-founded and although it has recently been shown that patients presenting with EMG as early as possible can make significant use of mechanistic information (Sorbge, 1977), it also helps to focus our attention on improving sensory feedback Need. It is not new to provide amputees with a feedback system on their motor prosthetics. In recent years it has received the attention of several researchers and has been a research subject at the Institute of Bioengineering at the University of New Brunswick since 1970. In fact, Clippenger et al. (1974) have applied adjuvant sensory feedback to patients with self-powered prostheses. The authors agree with Anani et al. (1977) that the idea that some form of complementary sensory feedback must be combined with external powered prostheses in order to fulfill their full function
