日本的格斗技术由“角力”——(相扑)分枝出柔道、空手道、相扑、合气道。柔道源出于中国的拳术,明代传至日本后发展成柔术。空手道是日本拳术的一种,原名唐手道,源于中国武术的技击。相扑是日本格斗技术的主枝——“角力”,和中国古代相扑同出一源,与中国秦、汉的角抵相似,唐文宗时改称相扑,近代改称摔跤。合气道是中国武术传到日本后,日本根据古代柔术流派中的大东流合气柔术,在大正时代(1912-1926)的末期由和歌山县人植芝盛平于1927年前后创立的“合气武道”,1948年改称“合气道”。
