Through the analysis of the character of the protagonist in Shakespeare ’s classic tragedy “Hamlet”, this paper discusses Hamlet’ s ideal as a humanist and his own weakness. He believes that the destruction of the protagonist is not only because of the weakness of personality, The particularity of the era and the brutal worldly life have shaken the belief in humanism and finally led to the disillusionment of ideals. Shakespeare’s eternal interpretation of spiritual survival through Hamlet’s ultimate fate reflects the absurdity of the absolute value belief of humanism.
