On August 10, 1993, three ships collided at the Tampa Bay inlet in Florida and as a result, about 328,000 gallons of oil spilled. Two barges, one of which contains fuel oil number 6 and the other, which contains aviation kerosene, gasoline and diesel, and Filipino cargo ships with phosphate mines are involved. The damaged fuel tank of the “Bouchard 155” barge was the source of most of the oil spills. A 17-mile oil band had been created around the surface of the boat and a second “Ocean255” barge exploded in a collision causing a fire.
