Estrogen and thyroxine are known to be the major hormones produced by the stimulating hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). However, although there is a significant increase in estradiol (E 2) during the normal menstrual cycle, some trials did not show any significant change in SHBG. This article attempts to further investigate the possible cyclical changes in serum SHBG using more sensitive binding assays and radioimmunoassays (RIA). Twelve women aged 21-33 years with normal menstrual cycles and fertility were bled daily for one menstrual cycle.
