社会转型期是代表历史发展趋势的实践主体自觉推进历史进步的特定的历史转折时期.这个时期,不仅社会的新旧机制处于交替更换的过程之中,而且也是人们的思想意识、道德观念等发生深刻变革的时期,因此,也是思想政治工作任务最重和大有作为的时期.但是,值得提出的是,我们过去对转型期人们思想变化的研究是很不够的,而且还存在着认识上的误区.人们以为,同社会正常发展的时期相比,转型期是一个特殊的、短暂的历史时期,其间所发生的种种社会现象都是在特定的历史条件下发生的不正常现象,没有普遍长远的意义,因而不屑一顾,认为不需要也不值得下力研究;社会转型期又是一个动荡不安的时期,各种矛盾错综复杂,各种现象光怪陆离,无规律可循,不易把握事物发展的方向,因而无从着手研究;有的把转型期和转型目标实现后的理想时期混同起来,以对后者的超前、预测研究代替对前者的现实研究,因而造成对这一领域研究的“空白”.
