《道咸以來朝野雜記》的作者崇彝(1884—1951)於晚清掌故極熟。他晚年與鄧之誠多所往還,抗戰期間,尤爲密切。鄧曾命研究生許大齡、王鍾翰等向崇彝請教。鄧還與他討論過此書的體例、門類,甚至直接潤色行文。抗戰勝利後,崇彝生活日漸窘迫,幾至售書度日,鄧曾居中介紹。解放後,爲紓崇彝生活之困,鄧曾多方説項,以期使他能進入文史館,但崇彝終於未能等到這一天。
Chong Yi (1884-1951), the author of The Legend of Ascension and Westerness since Daoxian, became famous in the late Qing Dynasty. In his later years, he went with Deng Zhicheng more and more, especially during the war of resistance against Japan. Deng had ordered graduate students Xu Taizhong, Wang Zhonghan to ask about Chong Yi. Deng also discussed with him the style of the book, categories, and even directly polish the essay. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Chong Yi life increasingly embarrassed, a few to sell books, Deng Zengju introduced. After the liberation, in order to shed light on the life of the Yi people, Deng said many things in order to enable him to enter the Museum of History and Culture. However, Chong Yi finally failed to wait until this day.
