I am a descendant of immigrants scattered abroad—my ancestors emigrated from China more than a hundred years ago. In the 19th century, my grandfather’s grandfather came to the United States from Hong Kong, the colony’s port city, and became a laborer in the Sierra Nevada segment of the East-West Railway across the continental United States. The graphic information on the history of Chinese Americans did not allow me to comprehend the fact that leaving my homeland and traveling to other places, working hard from morning to night for 16 hours, and not knowing what kind of work I would face the next day would be like. Feelings.
