John Milton, a British poet living in the same century, and Nara, a Chinese poet, have experienced the pain of widowing their wives. Their poems, written in honor of their deceased wife, are genuinely and morally touching. However, different socio-cultural backgrounds lead to great differences between the two mourning poems. The author interprets the two people’s mourning poems from the inside and outside of the text and explores the causes of the differences between the mourning poems of China and the United Kingdom in three aspects: image selection, lyricism and theme expression.
