Objective To investigate the difference between the common symptoms and blood parameters of benzene workers and non-benzene workers in the jewelry factory. Methods Epidemiological questionnaires were used to collect general demographic information, past history, length of service, use of protective equipment and general symptoms, and blood samples were collected for routine blood tests. Results General symptoms including headache, dizziness and memory loss were significantly higher in benzene group than those in non-benzene group (P <0.05). The absolute numbers of basophils and erythrocyte hemoglobin in benzene-exposed workers were lower than those in non-benzene workers , There was still a significant difference (P <0.05) after adjusting for age, sex, education level, length of service and smoking history. Conclusion Benzene workers feel more headache, dizziness and memory loss than non-benzene workers, but the absolute number of blood basophils and the average concentration of erythrocyte hemoglobin is lower than that of non-benzene workers.
