The authors measured 6 cases of choriocarcinoma brain metastases and 13 cases of non-brain metastases serum and cerebrospinal fluid HCG, β-HCG were measured continuously to explore the relationship between the two. In cases of brain metastases, the ratio of HCG to β-HCG in serum and cerebrospinal fluid was found to be low. HCG in cerebrospinal fluid, part of the blood HCG through the blood-brain barrier from the other part of the brain metastases directly into the cerebrospinal fluid. Brightman and others argue that changes in protein concentration in cerebrospinal fluid are also affected when there is an obstacle to the blood-brain barrier around the brain metastasis, combined with an abnormal endothelial cell junction in the nascent capillaries.
