On January 20, 1998, some literary and art circles in Beijing held forums with a group of writers, critics and scholars from Taiwan in the guest room of the Writers Association of China. Among the participants were Chen Ying-shing, a famous Taiwanese writer, Zeng Jianmin, president of Taiwan’s Social Science Research Association, and his wife, You Liying, and literary critic Lu Zhenghui.
