Beijing is a metropolitan area dominated by groundwater and about 67% rely on groundwater. Since 1999, due to successive droughts and drastic reduction of surface water resources, Beijing has built a number of urban emergency and emergency groundwater sources, making an important contribution to ensuring urban water supply security. In order to improve the management level of emergency water source, a GIS-based Emergency Water Source Management Information System (EGWMIS) integrating real-time monitoring, statistical reporting, simulation evaluation and management and early warning was established. The application of this system has improved the management level of groundwater sources, enhanced the scientificity of groundwater exploitation and improved the degree of water supply assurance and water supply security.
