However, to date, comparative studies on Sherwood Anderson and Shen Congwen have been scarce in the country, and the limited data available. This article will focus on the two writers’ masterpieces, “The Tale of the Little City” and “Border Town,” focusing on the different presentations of modernist themes in these two works. The conclusion also points out that both of them convey the existence of human beings in their works The ultimate concern of the state.
