Positioning and clamping function overlap to solve the positioning accuracy and deformation of the workpiece contradictions, especially for thin-walled parts. The expansion mandrel shown in FIG. 1 is mounted in a self-centering chuck 1 and the three jaws rest against the balls 7 (not clamped) in the radial bore of the mandrel. The evenly distributed balls 3 along the circumference have an arcuate flat surface equal to the radius of the bore of the mandrel. The number of balls 3 and 5 is determined by the mating length of the workpiece. Rotating the screw 4 causes the balls 5 to move axially, causing the balls 3 and 7 to move radially outward, causing the thin-walled portion of the mandrel to be elastically deformed, thereby clamping the workpiece 6 and securing the mandrel in the chuck.
