Objective: To investigate the relationship between electrochemical therapy (ECT) and tumor cell apoptosis. METHODS: Tunel assay and immunohistochemical S-P method were used to detect the apoptosis rate and the expression of p53 and bcl-2 genes in B cell lymphoma tissues of tumor untreated control group and ECT group, respectively. Results: The apoptosis rate of tumor cells in the ECT group (5.18) was significantly higher than that in the control group (1.05). The expression of p53 and bcl-2 in the ECT group was 80% and 25%, respectively. The expression in the control group was 15% and 90%, respectively. The expression of p53 in the ECT group was positively correlated with the apoptosis rate of the cancer cells, but bcl-2 was negatively correlated with the apoptosis rate of the cancer cells. Conclusion: ECT can induce apoptosis in cancer cells, which may be related to the regulation of p53 and bcl-2 genes.
