Kanagawa Building is located near the historic Japanese trade center and the famous Yokohama Port. It was originally a messy building on a narrow street. Japanese building regulations require that the height of a building be limited according to the width of the street so that there is a minimum amount of sunlight on the street. As a result, buildings in this area tend to expand toward the boundaries of the lot to ensure maximum building capacity; while the upper part is usually receded diagonally. This caused the buildings here to be built close to the boundary, making pedestrians on the road feel oppressed. Because of the narrow streets, the Kanagawa Building’s lot is restricted on almost all sides, which severely restricts the design. In this design, it should mainly consider its relevance to the surrounding urban environment.
