High population density is often associated with congestion, traffic jams and environmental problems. However, the development of “skirt-tower” complexes in Hong Kong has shown people how high population density has become viable. This is due to Hong Kong’s ingenuity in integrating high-volume public transport with new open spaces, vertical traffic and towers. At the same time, these highly efficient diamond-shaped or cruciform saw-toothed towers maximize the windows inside and outside a parcel. Hong Kong has become the world test ground for Vertical Urbanism.
