It is just as important to study the characteristics of noise sources of industrial machinery in order to grasp its sounding principle and to improve practical techniques of noise reduction. I made a special report on this topic at the 1978 San Francisco International Noise Conference. I elaborated on the mechanism of noise generation and some expressions for estimating noise. The most important argument is to demonstrate that the acoustic energy radiated by the nonelastomeric velocity from V 0 → 0 corresponds to the volume of impact air contained within the body of motion
