The fission cross sections near the base and base of the 16O + 232Th, 238U and 19F + 232Th and the angular distribution of the fragments were measured. Coupling-path theory involving the static deformation of the target nucleus explains the enhancement of the fusion cross-section under the barrier and predicts the broadening of the spin distribution in the composite nuclear system. The anisotropy of the angular distribution of the fractures experimentally observed is obviously inconsistent with the prediction of statistical theory of fission.
