1983年至1985年楚雄水管倾斜仪观测表明:楚雄地区的地壳表层是向东南方向倾斜的,与云南西部的红河断裂和哀牢山褶皱带的走向是一致的;楚雄台的台基是不均匀的,它表现在观测结果受外界干扰大和潮汐分析结果有方向性;地表观测与山洞(覆盖约30米)内观测的结果不能很好地符合,它表现在地表观测的倾斜方向规律性不好和干扰大于山洞内的观测。
