Zhou Hong, head of the Institute of European Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out in his article “Interpreting Contemporary European and U.S. Relations” that for a long time people have become accustomed to comparing Europe with the United States, collectively calling them “Western”. However, long before the end of the Cold War, Comrade Mao Zedong looked at the overall situation of the world and directed the mainstream formulation of the entire West as the “first world” at the time. He pointedly pointed out that the hegemony of the United States and the Soviet Union belonged to the first world, while the East and West It belongs to the second world and is the object that China can fight for. Comrade Deng Xiaoping further pointed out that the European people do not want war and it is a force that restricts war. These brilliant judgments laid the theoretical foundation for opening up a diplomatic environment conducive to China. In recent years, Comrade Jiang Zemin has pointed out many times that the world’s historical trends in multipolar development have repeatedly pointed out that the long-term coexistence and common development of various civilizations and different social systems in the world is conducive to “building a world of lasting peace and universal prosperity”. Therefore, a correct analysis of contemporary relations between Europe and the United States is crucial to gaining a deep understanding of China’s diplomatic environment and further promoting the multipolar world history.
