本文用语料库方法考察了中国英语学习者与本族语者在使用英语名词单复数eye/eyes时的用法及其所表达的意义的异同。通过对中国学生英语口笔语语料库2.0中的笔语子语料库和英国国家语料库BNC中的eye/eyes的检索与分析发现:中国学习者和本族语者在使用eye的单、复数时都具有明显的差异性,复数eyes通常指人体器官眼睛极其功能,而单数形式eye除了表示眼睛及其功能之外,更多地用在习语中表达审视、检查和观点等比喻意义。与中国学习者相比较而言,本族语者在这两个词的使用上更加灵活多变、形象生动。本研究的结论旨在说明英语名词单复数不仅在形式上会存在差异性而且有些词的单复数所表达的涵义会有不同程度的区别。
The corpus method is used to investigate the similarities and differences between Chinese EFL learners and native speakers when using single / plural English / English eye / eyes. Through the retrieval and analysis of the eye / eyes in the Chinese students’ spoken English corpus 2.0 and the English national corpus BNC, it is found that Chinese learners and native speakers have Significant differences, plural eyes usually refers to the extremely functional human eye organs, while the singular form of eye in addition to representing the eyes and their functions, more used in idioms to express the review, examination and viewpoints and other metaphorical significance. Compared with Chinese learners, native speakers are more flexible and vivid in using these two words. The conclusion of this study is to show that the singular and the plural of English nouns are not only different in form but also different in the meanings of singular and plural in some words.
