Objective To investigate the expression of p53, rasp21 and Cmyc oncoproteins in gastric cancer and to explore its role in gastric carcinogenesis. Methods The expression and distribution of p53, rasp21 and Cmyc in 60 gastric cancer specimens were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rates of p53, rasp21 and Cmyc in gastric cancer were 51.7%, 40.0% and 66.7%, respectively. The positive rates of normal mucosal epithelium adjacent to gastric cancer were 1.6%, 13.3% and 15.0%, respectively, which were significantly different from those in gastric cancer (P <0.01). The staining intensity of rasp21 and Cmyc in the tumor area, the transition area of the tumor, the normal mucosa adjacent to the tumor area were significantly different (P <0.05). The positive expression of p53 and Cmyc correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation, that is, the worse the differentiation, the higher the positive expression. Conclusion p53, rasp21 and Cmyc are closely related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer, and p53 and Cmyc may play an important role in tumor differentiation.
