Japanese culture and Japanese painting Japan, in my mind the impression is a common society formed by the wonderful combination of outsiders. As long ago as tens of thousands of years ago, people traveled long distances from all over the world to this arch archipelago floating in the easternmost ocean of the northern hemisphere. Among these people, some are floating across the sea or being sent to exile; some are reluctantly or reclusive; others are looking forward to comeback or escape. When they went through untold hardships to embark on this land, they discovered that there was an endless vast expanse of sea and had no choice but to stay here. Here, in order to survive, they have to bring the personal belongings brought along with their own custom and individuality, and even religious beliefs to each other, combine together and live together.
