《九色鹿经图》,讲述的是佛本生故事,也就是佛生前的故事。在印度佛教的经典里,许多动物扮演着重要的角色。凡是善良的人或动物,都是释迦的前身。而这样的安排和故事设置,最终都是为了说明一个佛学道理和观念,目的是教化人们向佛向善,以便形成一个没有争斗、没有恶念、没有欺凌的公平和谐的人类社会。九色鹿的故事,也同样如此。传说,在古代印度的恒河岸边,有一只貌美而且善良的鹿王。它身上的鹿毛有九种颜色,角如雪一样洁白,它一出来不但五颜六色鲜艳无比,而且浑身金光闪闪令人眼花缭乱,顿时会让万物臣服于其下。一天,九色鹿王正在河边饮水吃草,突然听到不远处的河里传来
