This paper attempts to examine the origins of European ideas, social and environmental backgrounds and their practice in the urban times of the nineteenth-century American transcendental view of nature. It is believed that transcendentalism’s interpretation of the relationship between nature and American culture is a combination of European culture and the specific nature of Boston , The product of the integration of religion and social environment. By a case study of horticulture in the 19th century in Boston, this paper points out that transcendentalism has made a new definition for the interaction between man and nature in the urban-era of the United States.
