由国家科委、中国科学院资助的我国第一座波力电站珠江口千瓦级波力试验电站主体混凝土工程——气室岩坑开挖和气室混凝土结构已完工,电站施工将进入最后岩坎暴破阶段,预计1988年上半年可安装第一台3KW机组。该电站采用岸式气动型振荡水柱方案,站址选在大万山岛洋台角西侧一天然台地岩石。为避免水下施工,采用岩石外侧预留岩坎、内侧暴破岩坑造成陆地施工环境,兴建电站气室结构,然后暴开岩坎。电站于1986年4月正式动工,由中科院广州能源研究所牵头研建,广东省军区珠海警备区承建。
