China’s book market in 2003 brought a disturbing figure to Chinese publishers in 2004: There were 700,000 books and 700,000 book titles in the market, with a sales volume of 46.1 billion yuan and a stock code of 40.1 billion yuan. In the meantime, industry insiders took a ferocious look at Kobayashi Kobayashi’s “big break-up in publishing,” and many sighs came - some even come to the panic of the Chinese publishing industry after the collapse of Japan’s publishing industry. It is also this year that voices from the policy-oriented reform of the publishing industry itself are getting louder. My opinion is: China’s publishing industry will not follow the Japanese publishing industry, China will not appear so-called collapse of the publishing industry. The most important thing that China’s publishing industry needs to address is the book industry revolution brought about by the digital era. China’s publishing industry has a bright future.
