香港较具规模之图书馆包括各大专学院之图书馆及两大公共图书馆体系。大专学院主要为香港政府资助之七间院校,包括香港大学、香港中文大学、科技大学、香港理工学院、城市理工学院、浸会学院及岭南学院。此七间高等院校所用之公款,由大学及理工教育资助委员会(University and Po-lytechaic Grants Committee)拨给,通常以三年为一期。香港大学成立于1911年,是一所历史悠久的综合大学,中文大学成立于1963年(原来三间成员学院新亚、崇基、联合则成立于1949、1951、1956年),香港理工及城市理工学院分别成立于1972年及1984年,浸会学院成立于1956年,岭南学院成立于1967年,而于1991年才正式获准加入大学及理工教育资助委员会。科技大学是最新之一员,于1991年9月正式开课,现有学生600余人。
The larger libraries in Hong Kong include libraries of major tertiary institutes and two public library systems. Tertiary Colleges are mainly seven institutions funded by the Hong Kong Government, including Hong Kong University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic, City Polytechnic, Baptist College and Lingnan College. The public funds used by these seven institutions of higher learning are allocated by the University and the Po-lytechaic Grants Committee, usually over a three-year period. Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong is a comprehensive university with a long history. The Chinese University of Hong Kong was founded in 1963 (formerly three member colleges, New Asia, Chong Kee, Union was founded in 1949, 1951, 1956), Hong Kong Polytechnic and City Polytechnic Institute was established in 1972 and 1984, the Baptist College was founded in 1956, Lingnan College was founded in 1967, and was officially approved in 1991 to join the University and Polytechnic University Grants Committee. University of Science and Technology is the latest member, officially started in September 1991, the existing students more than 600 people.
