在金属切削加工部门中,由于广泛地采用了高速切削法,使劳动生产率大大地提高了。应用高速切削法进行加工,切削速度很高,所以技术保安和劳动保护问题就显得非常重要了。最主要的任务,就是要探索出最有效的方法,使切屑在工作中不伤害工人,并能保证工作连续进行,不因切屑的阻碍而中断。在高速切削中,切屑常以很高的速度成带状而流出,同时具有非常高的温度。这样的切屑缠在零件上或机床的某个部件上时,必然会阻碍工作的正常进行,甚至发生人身事故,同时也限制了切削用量的提高。
