尤奈斯库的反戏剧理论以存在主义为理论基础,在戏剧表现手法上主张用反常化的戏剧手法将现实的荒诞性直观地展现在舞台上,追求主题晦涩难懂、情境怪诞、人物形象模糊、语言混乱无逻辑、道具意蕴深厚、悲剧性与戏剧性交融等美学特征,揭示了西方现代人的异化状态以及生存困境,其深刻的理论对戏剧实践产生了深远影响。然而,尤奈斯库的理论又表现出人生荒诞而痛苦、反抗无望又无用的悲观情绪,其思想中消极的一面也值得警惕。
