On June 24, 2011, U.S. President Barack Obama announced the launch of an Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) program worth more than US$500 million, calling for greater cooperation among U.S. governments, universities and enterprises. In order to strengthen the leading position in the U.S. manufacturing industry, the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI), as an important part of the AMP plan, will invest more than 100 million U.S. dollars. “Material Genome Project” is the United States after the information technology revolution, fully aware of the important role of material innovation on technological progress and industrial development, and put forward under the strategic background of the revival of manufacturing. Its main purpose is to try to shorten the development cycle of new materials by half and create a new “ring” development stream.
