根植于娄塘这片沃土上的娄塘中心校,有着悠久的历史,创建于1906年,经历了创建扩建、接管公办、改革振兴几个阶段,娄小人发扬求实、奋进、创新的精神,逐步形成了“团结、进取、好学、创新”的校风。学校现有18个教学班,527名学生,58名教职工,87名退休教师。其中小学高级教师30名,校级骨干教师11名。学校被命名为上海市绿色学校、上海市科技教育特色学校、上海市小班化教育试点学校,连年被评为区文明单位。在办学实践中,学校始终坚持正确的办学思想,倡导以人为本、主体发展的教育理念,以学生主动发展为中心、以绿色科技教育为切入口、以小班化教育为重点、以校园主题月为途径的基本思路,努力培养基础宽厚扎实、个性充分显现、要素结构合理、素质全面发展的新型人才。学校在联合国教科文组织的“环境、人口与发展(EPD)”项目研究的引领下,初步形成了主体发展的办学模式。学校努力打造“三支”队伍:开拓进取、团结协作、高效廉洁的干部队伍:乐于奉献、爱岗敬业、务实创新的教师队伍;立足本职、顾全大局、服务至善的职工队伍。学校教育形成了以人为本的三大体系:即体验型德育体系;主体型教学体系;探究型活动体系。这三大体系在学校大系统中既发挥各自独特的职能,又相互渗透,形成一个有机的整体,展现出处处有创新、人人有活力的校园风景。学校创建一个集自然美、艺术美、人文美于一体的校园文化环境,用丰厚的美育底蕴净化校园人的心灵,用丰富的文化内涵陶冶校园人的情操,用清新的校园格调感染校园人的情趣,创办“花园、学园、乐园”式学校。
