In order to obtain useful information for earthquake prediction, the Geological Survey has conducted observations and studies on the groundwater level, water temperature, water quality, radon content and gas dissolved in water in the eastern part of the Izu Peninsula since 1976. Groundwater level observations in the eastern part of the Izu Peninsula are fairly constant because they are intended to be as close as possible to the areas where anomalous uplift occurred. One of the observation points used is the Shangyan observation well. Instruments used to determine groundwater level include digital water level meters, water level recorders, piercing encoders, electronic barometer transmitters, barographs, transducers, analog-to-digital converters, inverters, gauges and DC regulators power supply. Another observation point is Ji Tang observation wells. This well was generated from the 1930 North Izu earthquake
