江苏省青年扬剧团演出的他们新编的历史剧《义民册》(剧本载《江苏戏曲》1960年6月号、《剧本》月刊1960年10月号),这是一出从侧面反映太平天国革命运动的小戏。戏虽小,内容却较为充实。《义民册》写的是这样一个激动人心的故事:1853年2月,太平军沿江东下,直指南京。这时,南京城内有十万义民,在鸡鸣寺秘密结盟,准备响应大军攻城。不料载有姓名、住址、职业的名册,被敌人搜去,落入两江总督陆建瀛之手。陆限令书吏秦积安连夜赶抄,以便天明分发各路兵马搜杀义民。秦积安接受了这项差使,在抄写过程中,经过反复曲折的思想斗争,又经潜伏在衙内的女义民李红云的启发和帮助,终于焚烧了名册,并为保全十万义民、为天国革命献出了宝贵的生命。这个故事,原是一个流传在南京民间的白莲教准备在南京起义的传说,评书艺人张幼臣同志曾在《乾隆传》中讲述过。本来除上面内容外,还有秦积安因救了十万义民,积了阴功,儿子成人后
