筆者在研讀《明實録》的過程中,經一段時間的整理與分析,對《明實録》關於功臣卒時的記載狀況有了較爲具體、深入的了解和把握。通過將《明實録》與《明功臣襲封底簿》、《皇明功臣封爵考》以及所見有關功臣之神道碑、墓誌銘、行狀等進行比較,發現《明實録》在功臣卒時記載上具有記載人數多、記載詳細、記載準確度高等優點,以及或有含混不清及失載之局限與不足。《明實録》關於功臣卒時記載具有優點、局限、不足的原因,乃在於其凡例對功臣卒時記載既有强調,但要求却又欠詳細,這在歷史文獻編纂學上留下了寶貴的經驗和教訓。此外,通過《國榷》與《明實録》關於功臣卒時記載的對比,又增進了關於《明實録》對後世歷史文獻具有重大影響的了解。
