Blood and urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) activity were measured in 57 diabetics and 83 normal controls. It was found that the activity of NAG in diabetic patients was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.01), and positively correlated with the levels of blood glucose, HbA 1c and urine albumin (P <0.01) Urinary NAG activity decreased, but microvascular lesions group was still significantly higher than the normal control group. Tip NAG activity is an indicator of the degree of diabetic microangiopathy.
