真正的日本花道自近世开始。日本为了建立一个较为有秩序的社会，就把中国的一些古代哲学思想如阴阳、三才等理论引进了安慰人心的花道体系，并因此造就了日本花道中插花的形式。而在插花真正形成之前的奈良与平安时代，已经存在日本民间的折花插头习俗，尽管不是真正的插花艺术，但是仍然为插花成为花道铺垫了道路。
The real Japanese flower pattern since the beginning of the world. In order to establish a more orderly society, Japan introduced some ancient Chinese philosophical ideas such as yin and yang and three talents into the consoling flower system and thus created the form of floral arrangement in Japanese flower arrangements. In the Nara and the Heian period before the flower arrangement was formed, there was already a custom of Japanese folk folding plume, which was paved the way for the flower arrangement, though not a true flower arrangement art.
