现代纤维艺术是一门受国内外艺术界广泛关注的艺术门类,起源于西方古老的壁毯艺术,在它的发展过程中又融合了世界各国优秀的传统纺织刺绣文化,既古老又年轻。中国素有“丝国”的美誉,传统纤维丝织有着悠久的历史,品种繁多,技艺精湛,据《中国工艺美术史》记载,我国最早采用的丝织材料主要是麻葛纤维,这些材料虽然粗糙,但却能编出山形和菱形的斜纹。到汉朝时,中国的地毯编织技术已达到相当高的水平。随着艺术观念的更新及科技的融入,越来越多的纤维艺术家把关注的焦点转向与传统的刺绣纺织工艺结合,这一突破使得我国现代纤维艺术更具民族特色,在很大程度上推动了我国纤维艺术的发展。现代纤维艺术要走出一条民族个性的道路,就需要根植于民族文化的土壤中,向传统学习,并进行具有创造性的转化,使传统文化符号在现代纤维艺术中既具有“民族个性”又有“时代性”。这样,才能创作出真正属于我们本民族的,同时又能够为国际社会所认同的现代纤维艺术作品。
