Introduction DSL provides faster, cheaper LAN, WAN and Internet connections. A new type of customer premise (CPE), the integrated CPE router, integrates many of the LAN / WAN-related functions to seamlessly communicate with each other in the DSL network. This integrated CPE device is easier to use, faster to install, and frees users from the complexities of using network protocols. In today’s global business environment, connecting one LAN to another LAN, or connecting the LAN to the Internet are all the simple business requirements. However, traditional approaches to high-speed LAN-to-WAN or LAN-to-LAN connectivity, such as leased lines, are expensive to implement and maintain. The advent of ISDN technology has enabled more commercial and small business / home business users to have high-speed data transfer. Unfortunately, because ISDN relies on public switched telephone networks, telephone companies will soon find their voice-based networks saturated by data connections that put a strain on the telephone network’s resources and eventually cost the telephone company and Users more money to solve the problem. Let’s take a look at DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), which offers a similar T1 rate at a lower cost without adding more load on an already overloaded public telephone system. DSL offers an exciting new solution for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Network Service Providers (NSPs), and local phone exchange carriers. For end-users, does DSL mean that more services can be accessed through their network provider, and one LAN can be faster and more reliable than another?
