The famous Australian poet Judith Wright tried to seek the rescue of the modern Western civilization from Eastern philosophy and finally found that the Japanese Zen fit her spiritual pursuit. Inspired by haiku-style haiku, she later created some haiku-style poems. In the last collection of poems, “Unreal Homes,” Wright focuses on the use of image overlays and juxtapositions and is good at using colors and rhetoric to create intense visual effects. Affected by the Japanese concept of nature and Zen Buddhism, Wright reproduces the vivid instantaneous form of life and life of plants and animals with a sense of intuition, which embodies the idea of equality of all living beings. In the lonely Zen landscape, Zen’s view of life and death and its outlook on life are well reflected in later Wright’s late poems.
