Objective To investigate the results of re-examination of blood donors temporarily blocked and re-participation in blood donation. Methods Blood donors who performed blood retesting in Guangzhou from 2014 to 2015 were analyzed and tracked till June 30, 2016 to analyze the re-donation rate and re-donation test results. Results The rate of failed blood tests was 3.07%, of which 10 625 were blood donors temporarily shielded. A total of 1 230 blood tests were conducted, of which 916 were reviewed and qualified for screening. The re-examination pass was negatively correlated with age (P = 0.01) and positively correlated with the number of blood donations (P <0.01). A total of 593 people participated in the blood donation again, of which 523 blood tests were qualified. The greater the number of blood donations before the re-examination, re-examination pass again to participate in the greater the chance of blood donation (P <0.01). Conclusion The follow-up of blood donors and the blood re-screening of blood donors who are being temporarily shielded will reduce the impact of false-positive screening results on the loss of blood donors.
