To assess the effect of near-normal blood glucose on the pathophysiology of the eye and kidneys and changes in retinal morphology, the authors designed a one-year, prospective randomized study. 40 patients were selected in succession, meeting the criteria of retinopathy, endogenous insulin secretion, age 18 to 51 years, diabetes before age 31 and disease duration less than 30 years. Eighty of the 40 patients did not receive the test for various reasons. The author made a preliminary report on 32 cases of half year observation.
