丘陵山地每年七、八月间雨水较少,桑树受旱后对秋叶生长威胁较大,为实现丘陵山地蚕桑生产高产稳产,1972年我们科技组着手对15个桑树品种进行秋期抗旱性考察,结果抗旱较强的有大众桑,荷叶白,湖桑197,育2号等品种,桐乡青不但耐旱,而且还表现抗病。1973年又对栽植在地薄黄土上的枉山3号、湖桑197、大众桑等进行观察,以嵊县青作对照,在受旱34天的情况下,大众桑表现较耐旱,硬化迟,但叶形薄小;湖桑197长叶慢,硬化迟,有封顶现象;
