曾有记载:日本方头甲[Cybocephalus nipponicus Endrdy-Younga(Cybocephalidae)]在日本是桑盾蚧及矢尖蚧的捕食性天敌,但还无记载是植食性螨类的捕食性天敌。 日本方头甲雄虫羽化后4～5天,雌虫则在羽化后2天即交尾,从交尾至产卵为2～6天,平均为4天;产卵前期为6～10天,平均8天,卵期平均为6.23天,幼虫期平均为15.77天,蛹期15.67～19.12天,即平均一生发育期为37.07～41.12天。雌雄性比为1:0.77。雌虫寿命最长191天,最短66天,平均143.9天;雄虫寿命最长193天,最短35天,平均122.8天。根据对捕食对象嗜好性试验:日本方头甲喜食盾蚧的2龄幼虫,很少取食雌成虫,对红蜘蛛则偏嗜卵,亦能取食若虫及雌成虫。以盾蚧为食时能进行生殖,但以红蜘蛛为食料时则不能产卵,
